The Woodcut Process: Color, Part 2
For the third block, I cut out the red and blue roofs with a scroll saw, inked each piece individually, then inserted it back into the block like a puzzle piece. Printing two colors at the same time reduces the number of blocks and the chance for a mistake in registration.

The most exciting moment comes with the printing of the final, or "key" block. Abstract shapes and colors are transformed into domes, terraces and minarets: Jerusalem – View of the Old City in Sunlight.

With an additional block for the evening sky, and different colors for the buildings, the time of day is changed, and the print becomes Jerusalem – View of the Old City at Twilight.
