The Biblical Lamentations, written to mourn the destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians, seem as apt today as they were 26 centuries ago. The artist, who lives in Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC, created this image with the violence in the Middle East in mind. But as she was working on this particular image on September 11, 2001, she heard — from her studio — the impact of the plane which struck the Pentagon, and the text took on a terrible new meaning in her own backyard.
