Woodcuts and Sculpture
by Margaret Adams Parker
The Library of Congress has purchased all 15 of the woodcuts in Parker's WOMEN series.
The woodcuts explore a theme which has long been important in Parker's work. She depicts women as they are: old and young, joyful and grieving, cradling babies, lost in memory, working, adjusting the angle of a hat. She finds dignity and reveals beauty in unexpected places. These images make an important statement about women, offering an antidote to society's conceptions of female beauty and the media's glamorized versions of women's lives.
